Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in Western societies. If an early onset of CDV occurs in families, heredity can be an independent risk factor for cardiovascular problems. Stephanie Maiwald investigates the molecular basis for premature CDV, in which heritability is an important factor that partly determines whether someone will be susceptible to this disease.
