Patients with fever of unknown origin (FUO) and inflammation of unknown origin (IUO) are a diagnostic dilemma. Hans Balink describes the role and interpretation of images of a hybrid 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in patients with non-specific and non-localised complaints and symptoms (e.g. fatigue, fever, diminished appetite) which have not been diagnosed after a routine diagnostic evaluation.
