The media environment in which young people grow up is an increasingly sexualised one. This has in turn raised concerns within society. To determine whether such concerns are founded, Annemarie van Oosten explores the effects of sexual media on adolescents. She hereby throws light on the kind of adolescent most susceptible to the possible effects of sexualised media. In addition, she focuses – among other things – on the effects of online, sexy self-presentations on sexual convictions, on the sexual behaviour of adolescents, and on the effects on their sexual self-image.
