The advent of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) has revolutionised the prognosis for people with HIV. Ensuring sustained viral suppression and optimal immune recovery during cART are key requirements underlying the success of treatment. Nevertheless, in a substantial number of patients, viraemia (viral sepsis) has been observed. Shuangjie Zhang focuses on the challenges accompanying this phenomenon.
