Only recently has dance been included in exhibitions and publications that deal with the different movements in art at about the beginning of the 20th century. The career of the German dancer Gertrud Leistikow is more or less typical of the careers of many female solodancers just before, during and after World War One. Jacoba de Boer explores the reasons why Leistikow’s faded into anonymity in both the Netherlands and Germany.
