The transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) mainly occurs by blood-on-blood contact, but also through sexual contact. Because of its asymptomatic nature, acute HCV infections are rarely observed. Xiomara Thomas describes the epidemiological, immunological and virological aspects of hepatitis C infections in both acute and chronically infected patients.
