During pregnancy or delivery, complications can lead to maternal morbidity and poor perinatal outcomes such as perinatal mortality or (severe) neonatal morbidity. The Netherlands is one of the highest countries among Europe when it comes to perinatal mortality. Brenda Kazemier studies screening options for spontaneous preterm birth, investigates the association between asymptomatic bacteriuria and poor perinatal and maternal outcome, and explores differences in perinatal mortality near term in certain subgroups.
