Maintenance of adequate cerebral perfusion is of vital importance for the health, growth and repair of brain tissue. Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that non-invasively measures cerebral blood flow (CBF). Since its inception, ASL has matured to a whole-brain perfusion technique that is available on all major MRI systems. Henk-Jan Mutsaerts investigates the inter-vendor reproducibility of ASL, as well as several clinical applicabilities of ASL.
