Karin Wanrooij examines how infants learn to perceive the vowels of their mother tongues and how adults learn to perceive the vowels of a new language. She focuses on one specific learning mechanism, namely learning from simple exposure to the environment, without receiving instruction or feedback. This mechanism is called ‘distributional learning’.
