The glycocalyx is a glycoprotein-polysaccharide cover that surrounds the cell membranes of nearly all cells. Hans Mooij focuses on endothelial cells and more specifically, endothelial glycocalyx, although it is important to note that glycobiology has a role in whole-body cellular function.
