The role of platelets in infection and immunity is an exciting new theme, which is rapidly evolving. Sasha de Stoppelaar studies the involvement of platelets in the host response to pneumonia and sepsis, using two clinically relevant human pathogens, and a combination of in vitro systems, experimental mouse models and observational studies in patients with sepsis.
