Most asthma patients are predisposed to developing allergic hypersensitivity and are sensitized to certain allergens. This implies that the pulmonary inflammatory response in asthma is typically allergic in nature and driven by the exposure to allergens in the air. Johannes de Boer 's research focuses on influence of an endogenous anticoagulant system, the PC system, on the inflammatory response in asthma and pneumonia.
