Particle detectors consist of two main components: a detection medium, which can be a solid, liquid or gas, and a readout circuitry. The choice of both the medium and the readout system depends on the application. Francesco Zappon studies Micro Patterns Gas Detectors (MPGD), which use gas as the detection medium and have a pixelated readout system. He focuses specifically on GridPix detectors, a sub-category within MPGD detection systems.
