Plants cannot avoid being attacked by an almost infinite number of microorganisms and herbivores, but fortunately they have a range of molecular weapons that they can use against their attackers. Alessandra Scala’s research focuses on the role played by E-2-hexenal, a Green Leaf Volatile compound, and γ-amino butyric acid in the defense responses of plants.
