The Higgs mechanism, and the long-elusive Higgs boson, play a key role in explaining how particles acquire mass within the framework of the Standard Model of particle physics (SM). Rosemarie Aben’s research focuses on measuring the spin and parity of the Higgs-like boson found during the ATLAS experiment at CERN in 2012. This involves the formulation of alternative hypotheses for the observed boson and, subsequently, a comparison of the total dataset of collision data collected in 2012 to the SM hypothesis and each of the alternative hypotheses.
