Adolescence is a period in which people often display risk-taking behaviour. Previous research has linked the use of drugs and alcohol to differences in brain function, character and other aspects of cognition, but It is not always clear whether these differences precede substance use, or develop as a result of it. Tim Janssen investigates whether specifically selected cognitive and environmental factors are associated with the development of substance use among adolescents.
