Xu Zhang investigates the emergence of an advanced services economy and its implications for the development of Chinese cities and regions. He studies the transition undergone by one of China’s most urbanised industrial regions, the Pearl River Delta. He focuses specifically on the way this process was influenced by the economic, political, institutional and cultural context in the Pearl River Delta.
