The use of catalysts has both environmental and economic advantages. They are used in a variety of chemical processes, ranging from the manufacture of products such as plastics, fuels and drugs to the reduction of harmful emissions from vehicles. Soraya Sluijter focuses on developing new catalysts based on N-heterocyclic carbene ligands. These ligands play an important role in determining the properties of catalysts.
