Tibert van der Loop studies hydrogen-bond dynamics and proton transport in molecular machines and water droplets of only a few nanometers in diameter. He focuses on differences in behaviour between these small volumes of water and bulk water, including the effect nanoconfinement has on proton transfer. He also investigates whether the shape of nanoscopic water droplets affects their physical characteristics.
