Psychotic disorders are a serious mental illness. Patients may experience a disruption of their basic sense of self; for example, their movements and thoughts may appear to them to be controlled by someone or something outside themselves. Henriette Heering aims to create greater understanding of the heterogeneity of psychotic disorders. She has done so in her research by focusing on the symptoms associated with a disturbed sense of self in patients with psychosis.
