Through her research, Hannah Nohlen seeks to increase understanding of how individuals are affected by and deal with attitudinal ambivalence. She investigates whether and under what circumstances ambivalence actually elicits negative affect, why individuals experience ambivalence about the same attitude object under some, but not other circumstances, and how individuals respond when confronted with having to make a choice regarding an ambivalent subject. She does this using a combination of physiological, self-report and behavioural methods.
