Hansje Eva Teulings investigates clinical and immunological characteristics of the skin diseases melanoma and vitiligo. More insight into the immune responses in vitiligo patients could contribute to improving the treatment of melanoma. Teulings presents data suggesting that having vitiligo protects patients against developing melanoma and other UV related skin cancers, while developing or inducing vitiligo-like depigmentations in the course of melanoma appears to improve outcomes. The aim is to use the acquired knowledge to use vitiligo induction as a new form of local immunotherapy for melanoma patients.
