In the Netherlands women have had the option of freezing their eggs since 2011. It is a cultural phenomenon that has received extensive media attention and has become the subject of political debate and ethical discussion. Lucy van de Wiel investigates how the advent of this new technology has shifted cultural constructions, offering insight into contemporary gender-specific ideas about ageing and reproductivity, She studies a selection of cultural objects varying from documentaries to medical photography.
