Bloodstain pattern analysis is a forensic methodology used in crime scene reconstruction. Nick Laan’s research focuses on the dynamics of the impact and spreading of droplets. He uses a new method that makes it possible to determine the position and height of the blood source more accurately than ever before. This can enable investigators to determine whether a victim was sitting or standing, information that can be crucial in claims of self-defense, for example.
