When government bodies take a decision about a plan or project that requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), such as the construction of a motorway, it must set down its argumentation in a Record of Decision (ROD). The aim of Ingeborg van der Geest's research is to develop a precisation of a form of pragma-dialectical analysis that can be used to systematically analyse the argumentation used in support of a choice in an ROD based on an EIA.
