The period just after birth is an important phase in the development of a baby, which can have enduring effects on later brain structure and cognitive and emotional function, a process known as ‘early programming’. Eva Van Meeteren-Naninck investigates the biological processes at play when experience, hormones and nutrition act together during this sensitive early postnatal period.
