Neutron stars are one of the possible outcomes of stellar evolution. Tullio Bagnoli studies X-ray bursts coming from neutron stars in X-ray binaries. Most stars are born in multiple systems; therefore, many neutron stars are found in a binary orbit with a companion star. Bagnoli focuses on two kinds of sudden energy release that can take place in such a system.
