Optical metamaterials are materials built from sub-wavelength building blocks, and can be designed to have effective optical properties that are not found in natural materials. Marie van de Haar investigates an alternative metamaterial design, a so-called plasmonic metamaterial. She hereby describes the fabrication process and determines the optical properties of a such a three-dimensional coaxial plasmonic metamaterial.
