Chest radiographs (CXRs) are frequently used to complement physical examination in Intensive Care Units and Post-Anesthesia Care Units. Opinions on the indications for using CXR in these two patient categories vary worldwide. Different strategies include obtaining CXRs on indication only or routinely, on admission to an ICU or PACU. Anke Kröner evaluates the clinical value of the CXR in ICU and PACU patients, to determine which strategy is most effective.
