Carlijn Welten carries out research into the treatment of patients with an acute manic episode. This is part of the Bipolar 1 Disorder, characterised by episodes of acute mania, episodes of depression and periods of remission. Some of the questions she focuses on are whether the level of insight into one’s illness influences the efficacy of antipsychotic treatment and whether final treatment failure at study endpoint can be predicted by early non-response.
