A hospital’s performance can be evaluated by many different criteria. Hospitals are measured, first and foremost, by contributions made to the health of their patients, but they can also be judged in terms of job satisfaction of their employees, their financial viability and their impact on the broader community. In these value areas, performance can fluctuate. Jeannette Knol investigates the relationship between the actions of a hospital’s Board of Governors and the internal dynamics and performance of a hospital as a whole.
