Shift work is a signature feature of our contemporary 24-hour society, but numerous studies have shown that frequently shifting periods of sleep and wakefulness pose a serious threat to the physical, mental and psychosocial health of shift workers. The aim of Heidi Lammers-van der Holst’s research is to investigate why some shift workers tolerate shift work well and others develop symptoms of chronic illness.
