Mariëtte van Engen-Verheul’s research is to realise an infrastructure for continuous improvement of professional improvement in the field of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in the Netherlands. Cardiac rehabilitation is provided by multidisciplinary teams including cardiologists, physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists social workers and dieticians. The new infrastructure is based on the principles of the Learning Health System concept, the idea being to harness the power of data and analytics to learn from every patient, and feed knowledge of what works best back to clinicians to create learning cycles of continuous improvement.
