Biomineralization is the deposition of minerals by living organisms. Almost all biominerals are hybrid materials comprised of both mineral and organic components. Having formed under induced or controlled conditions, biominerals possess properties such as shape, size and mechanical strength, which can be clearly distinguished from their inorganic counterparts.Narjes Javaheri investigates the mechanisms underlying biomineralization from several perspectives, using both computational and experimental methods.
