Thomas Cherpanath’s studies dynamic haemodynamics. i.e. the fluid dynamics of blood flow. Heamodynamically unstable mechanically ventilated patients are often treated with fluid administration initially. However, both insufficient and excessive fluid administration increases morbidity and mortality, which means greater insight is needed into fluid response in critically ill patients. With this aim, Cherpanath studies three aspects of dynamic haemodynamics: fluid responsiveness, ventilator-induced dynamic parameters and ventilator-induced myocardial dysfunction.
