IN her research, Martine Beijerman revisits the debate about whether the participation of NGOs in international law-making contributes to the democratic legitimacy of international law. The starting point of the democratic legitimacy thesis is the assumption that authority exerted by international lawmakers requires democratic legitimacy to ensure broad acceptance of international law, and Beijerman investigates whether this assumption is valid.
