To find out to what extent press agencies and press officers determine what the Dutch news media report, Jelle Bouwma analyses the Dutch news landscape. He compares the texts of press releases and reports from the Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau (ANP) with news items from print an online media including nu.nl, De Volkskrant and De Telegraaf. Although a considerable share of online news items (66%) are based on ANP reports, the share is significantly lower for the print versions of newspapers. One in ten newspaper reports is based on a press release from a company or NGO. This means so-called copy-paste journalism is less prevalent in the Netherlands than in the US and UK.
