How young people perceive democracy and citizenship has long been the subject of academic and public debate, partly because there are doubts about the extent to which adolescents today are positively orientated towards democratic citizenship. Hessel Nieuwelink reports on research that considers adolescents’ views on democracy. Particular attention is paid to decision-making, discussions, and social and political engagement.
