Fred Meijer studies the life and work of Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606-1684) in the context of still-life painting in the Ntehrlands, and specifically in the 1626-1684 period. De Heem was one of the leading painters in this field, and a very versatile artists who tackled a variety of still-life subjects and motifs and whose style and handling did not cease to develop throughout his career. Meijer analyses and discusses all of De Heem’s currently known 270 paintings.
