Fleur Bouwer explores the ingredients that are needed for us to perceive a beat in musical rhythm. She examines how beat perception is affected by attention, musical abilities and the type of accent that indicates he beat in a rhythm. Her experiments suggest that we are able to perceive a beat even when our attention is diverted elsewhere.
