Sophie Kraaijenga studies oropharyngeal and laryngeal function in patients who have been treated for advanced head and neck cancer. These patients are at risk of developing substantial functional impairments after organ-preserving treatment with radiotherapy or concurrent chemo- and radiotherapy. As many as two thirds of patients with advanced HNC are left with permanent swallowing impairments.
