The primary treatment for patients with locally advanced cervical tumours is radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy. In the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam a new strategy was recently introduced based on adaptive radiation therapy. The aim is to achieve adequate dose delivery in response to anatomical changes during treatment by adapting the dose delivery. The strategy is implemented through daily plan selection from a library of plans generated before the treatment starts. In his research, Stijn van Schoot investigates how this adaptive radiation strategy can be optimised.
