In her research Marleen Straat discusses the effects of transfusions of red blood cells, platelets and FFP in critically ill patients. She aims to increase our understanding of the effects of a blood transfusion to allow clinicians to better weigh the advantages and disadvantages, thereby minimising the risk of adverse outcomes.
