Catalysts can offer a direct route to the formation of products in a selective and energy efficient way. One important type of homogenous catalytic reaction that has recently attracted a lot of attention are ones that involve functionalization of the Carbon-hydrogen bond. These reactions are viewed as a green alternative to standard cross-coupling reactions that produce more waste. In her research, Linda Jongbloed aims to provide a fundamental understanding of C-H activation and the reactivity of the Metal-carbon bond in cyclometalated complexes based on novel P,N,C-ligands.
