Ankle trauma can result in damage to the cartilage and the underlying bones, known as an osteochondral defect. If this defect does not heal completely, it can eventually lead to the formation of a cyst in the bone under the damaged cartilage. Mikel Reilingh investigates how these cysts develop and analyses the various options for surgical treatment.
