Every year about 30 children in the Netherlands develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and need to be treated with renal replacement therapy, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis or pre-emptive kidney transplantation. In the Netherlands and Belgium, paediatric nephrology care is organised in 10 small centres, four of which are in the Netherlands. Maike van Huis evaluates the quality of care in these centres and compares the practices and policies with regards to transplantation, growth hormone and hypertension with current guidelines and literature.
