In their battle against their host, harmful fungi are able to use an ingenious method. Through genetic transfer, they are able to pass on pathogenicity to non-pathogenic strains. Fusarium Oxysporum is one such fungus and is able to infect many different kinds of crops. Shermineh Shahi investigates this fungus with the aim of learning more about how this so-called horizontal transfer of a complete chromosome occurs.
