Raising a foster child with a traumatic history and/or complicated behavioural problems presents a challenge to foster parents. Many foster children move repeatedly from home to home. In the Netherlands, a third of all foster children experience two or more placements. Anne Maaskant examines the possible mechanisms for and solutions to reducing the risk of placement breakdown for foster children in long-term foster care.
