Salinas is a small farming town in California with a high level of gang activity. Mexican-American inhabitants forma majority in the town. Despite significant philanthropic investment and many good intentions, participation levels in community settings are low. Megan Raschig carries out an ethnographic study of the lives and relationships of members of a fledgling social project in Salinas, a women’s 'healing collective' named La colectiva de Mujeres, and considers the political contours of what they understand by healing.
