Recommendations on whether or not to carry out a particular medical test mostly focus on a test’s accuracy. Gowri Gopalakrishna argues that the evaluation of tests should take into account wider effects and consequences of testing, to enable evidence-based assessment indicating whether a new test or strategy is likely to be in the patient’s interests.
